I've been planning to start writing for a while now and the main motivation for that is to share tips, tricks and recipes to help you achieve the health you want through nutrition.
I never recognized the value in good nutrition and a balanced diet until I was forced to make changes myself. In my early 20's, I felt healthy enough while late nights and drive-thru's were a regular occurence. It's hard to deny the convenience late night drive-thru's provide, not to mention cheap food with lots of flavor. After obtaining results with significantly high cholesterol levels, my doctor seriously urged me to change my diet and eating habits. Especially having worked in a medical setting, it dawned on me that my actions and lifestyle habits had a direct result on my health! I'd seen it before in older and heavier persons, and I never realized the negative impact my actions and habits were having on my health. So, I decided to make changes.
I started to learn about different types of diets and what actually constitutes a balanced diet. I set a meal schedule for myself to prevent me from skipping meals and then overindulging late at night. I also incorporated more structured exercise which helped with my energy levels, body composition and better sleep at night.
With this new knowledge and first hand experience, I became excited t share my knowledge and path with patients at our clinic. I enjoyed having conversations about health and sharing the information I had learned with those in similar downfalls of health. That's when I came to realize that this can be a rewarding and viable career path for me. After some preparations, I enrolled and completed American University's online program for their Masters of Science in Nutrition Education. This was such an eye opening experience and I learned so much valuable information that is applicable in real everyday life!
Currently, I am studying to sit for the CNS examination to become licensed as a Certified Nutrition Specialist. This will allow me to carry on with more confidence and more resources at my hands to stay up to date on the ever developing research in the field of Nutrition and Health.
